Students Tour the CVA!

An Art Instructor from the Medford School District brought six of her AP Art Students to the CVA to tour the Galleries and have Valerie Berkely, a local artist and CVA Painting Instructor critique some of their portfolio work.

Sharon said "Val gave us some excellent instruction and information in only 90 minutes. She taught us a lesson in value scale, designing compositions using the rule of thirds, how light creates emphasis, how to know when you are done with a piece, framing, practicing composition, and how to choose a gallery for your work."

"Students received some extremely beneficial feed back on their work and were impressed by the artist's knowledge of art and design. I am also developing three lesson plans based on this experience to bring back to all my classes. I am grateful that the CVA gave us the opportunity to meet with Val and get motivated to get back into the studio!"

Thank you Sharon for taking the time to bring your students to the CVA to become inspired in the arts!

CVA Main Gallery & Loft Exhibit

Opening at the CVA Friday, Sept 14 - Nov 3, 2012

Gala: Friday, Sept 21, 5-7pm

"There is a mystery here, and in all my best work,
which I, too, am forbidden to understand."
So wrote the man behind the enigmatic paintings signed "BUXTEHUDE."

The artist himself might hope we would view his oil canvases "with a gasp of astonishment, a moment of recognizing something as absolutely right, while never having seen it that way before." These remarkable narrative paintings are compelling and brilliantly accomplished, both luscious and disturbing.

Rarely has the CVA dedicated both the Main and the Loft Galleries to a single exhibit. "BUXTEHUDE: The Reuniting" showcases more than twenty large paintings by this locally renowned painter and professor.
