FAQ:

What is Critique?

A critique is a space for exchanging opinions about work, offering different perspectives for collective improvement, and should be approached with care and openness. It provides an opportunity to reflect on your work through other artist’s viewpoints, balancing constructive feedback with the chance to build a deeper practice.

What kind of art can I bring to critique?

Critique Night is for visual artists, it is not an ideal space to receive feedback on writing, or performative arts like theater and music.

How long will I be critiqued?

Critiques will be timed (10-15mins) to ensure all participants have equal opportunities to present their work.

I can only attend one date/time, can I still attend?

Yes, sign up for one or all of the available critique nights. Be sure to register for all dates you want to attend.

I dont have art to critique right now can I still attend?

Yes, you can. Attending a critique is a good way to learn what a critique is and to connect with and support your fellow artists.

Iv never attended a critique what will critique night be like?

The CVA stoop doors will open at 6:45 pm for artists, critique will be held upstairs in the classroom studio. Facilitators will greet and direct artists when and where they can set up or install their work for critique. There will be time for the group to make introductions and to observe the work up close before the critiques start. Time will be divided between each artist participating and the artists can direct the group towards what type of feedback they are looking for. In exchange, you will give feedback to other participants in turn.
